Best Rooftop Bars in NYC

You may think the rooftop bars in New York City are just for summer nights, but like the rest of 2020, the rules have been thrown, well, off the roof. That’s right; not only are some of the greatest rooftops still open for fun, many intend to stay open year-round to comply with Covid-safe protocols.

So don’t give up on the bars just because it’s getting chillier outside; instead, grab a sweater and check out our Top Five rooftop bars in NYC.

For some of the best views, head to Brooklyn and The Top of the Box, formerly a wedding venue that is now open to the public for the first time. The 10,000 sq. ft. space has a retractable roof and sliding glass doors to help keep the weather at bay while guests enjoy craft cocktails and “worldly bites.” Reservations are needed as there’s quite a large demand to enjoy the unobstructed panoramic views.

In Hell’s Kitchen, the Cantina Rooftop serves up modern Mexican fare along with tequila and mezcal cocktails – hello Pina Rita! With a retractable roof, even a rainy day won’t dampen the mood or a long night looking at the city lights. And if brunch is more your speed, be sure to add an order of sweet & spicy Brussel sprouts with cotija cheese to your Mezcal pink lady.

The Refinery Rooftop in Midtown has Cocktail Caddies made for sharing – like the Red Sangria or 13th Floor Margarita – while you and your friends enjoy the views of the Empire State Building. Don’t forget to grab a snack so you can imbibe longer into the evening. Try the truffle fries or bob bons if you’re feeling sweet.

At the top of the Hoxton Hotel in Williamsburg is the Summerly Rooftop bar. Enjoy panoramic views along with lobster rolls, dirty fries, and crafted cocktails on comfy couches while remaining socially distant. You’ll want to party long into the evening as the lights of the city come to life.

And a rooftop list wouldn’t be complete without a shout out to the “The Greens” at the Pier 17 Rooftop. The Greens boast more than two dozen 14 x 14 square foot “mini lawns” that can each serve up to eight guests. Enjoy lounge chairs, Yeti coolers, USB port, and umbrella all with stunning views of the water.

More and more bars and restaurants are investing in their rooftops so they can welcome guests year-round. While many have retractable roofs and heaters, be sure to dress appropriately so you can be comfortable all night long!
