Super Bowl Drinking Games

Super Bowl Drinking Games

This Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs will defend their Super Bowl title as they take on the Tampa Bay Bucs in their home stadium for Super Bowl LV. Millions will watch from living rooms worldwide from the national anthem, through the halftime show, all the way to the confetti.

Historically, the big game isn’t always the most exciting–leaving fans to have more to say about the commercials than the actual scoring. Yet, one thing is consistent, it’s one of the biggest party days of the year, and there are plenty of ways to ensure all have fun.

Even if you are celebrating virtually (and you really should be), you can make the big game a little more interesting with some drinking games. You might even want to dedicate a second TV as a monitor for your Zoom gathering to ensure everyone is playing along.

Eyes on the game. To ensure people are paying attention to what’s happening on the field, drink as follows (and feel free to add your own flair).

Drink if:

  • There’s a 20+ yard pass.
  • A player cries.
  • The camera shows a celebrity in the crowd.
  • A player kisses his fingers and points to the sky.
  • A player is penalized for anything.
  • There’s a field goal.
  • There’s an interception.

Finish your drink when:

  • Your team scores first.
  • A quarterback gets sacked.
  • Either team goes for it on fourth down.
  • The game goes into OT.

Do a shot if:

  • Your team wins.
  • A coach yells at a referee.

Non-game game. Not everyone is watching for the game. Some only want to see the commercials, find out who’s singing the national anthem or are rooting for a catastrophe in the halftime show.

Drink if:

  • A car commercial makes you cry.
  • There’s a Doritos commercial.
  • There’s an animal in a commercial.
  • They talk about the cutout “audience.”
  • They show an aerial shot of the stadium.

Finish your drink when:

  • Anything goes wrong during the halftime show.
  • Either coach has facemask issues.
  • There’s a Gisele Bündchen sighting.

Do a shot if:

  • You cry during the Amanda Gorman poem.
  • Ariana Grande shows up.

Of course, everyone should drink when someone yells, “I forgot the rules!”

Remember, the Super Bowl can make for a long evening, so be sure to hydrate–especially if you have an early Zoom call on Monday morning!
